Norova
Classical interior detail by Norova

Why Norova

What we bring
that others don't.

A working knowledge of Southeast Asian classical traditions, documentation precise enough for skilled joiners, and sourcing relationships built over years — not assembled for the project.

Core Advantages

Six reasons clients work with Norova

Each of these reflects a genuine difference in how we work — not a marketing position.

Regional Classical Knowledge

We have studied Peranakan, British colonial, and European classical interiors as design languages — not as decorating references. That distinction makes for more considered decisions at every stage.

  • Peranakan colour and spatial logic
  • Colonial proportion and joinery tradition
  • Western classical ornament vocabulary

Construction-Ready Documentation

Our drawings are prepared to a standard that builders and joiners can work from directly — with joinery profiles, ceiling sections, and finish schedules that remove ambiguity from the construction process.

  • Joinery elevations with profile notes
  • Ceiling and cornice section drawings
  • 3D perspective views of key rooms

An Active Sourcing Network

We maintain working relationships with antique dealers, fabric houses, and restorers across the Klang Valley and Penang — contacts built through years of active sourcing, not assembled on a project-by-project basis.

  • Vetted classical furniture suppliers
  • Restorer relationships for existing pieces
  • Fabric and lighting in two budget bands

Senior Designer on Every Project

Norova is a small studio. Every project is handled by a senior designer from the initial conversation through to the installation visit. There is no handover to a junior once the brief is signed.

  • One point of contact throughout
  • Senior-level judgment at every decision
  • Transparent scope, agreed in writing

Designed for the Long Term

We approach each project as a long-term composition — selecting materials that age gracefully in Malaysia's climate and making choices that will still feel right in fifteen years. Not in fifteen months.

  • Climate-appropriate material choices
  • No seasonal redesign required
  • Guidance on care of traditional materials

Transparent, Stated Pricing

Our service packages are priced clearly and stated in advance. Clients know what they are paying for before any work begins. There are no undisclosed markups on sourced items beyond what is agreed in the scope.

  • Concept Brief from RM 540
  • Full documentation from RM 3,550
  • Sourcing liaison from RM 1,890

Expertise

Fifteen years in classical interiors

Norova's principal designer spent fifteen years working on heritage properties and classically-directed residential projects before founding the studio. That background is not a credential on a wall — it shows up in the quality of the drawing, in the sourcing decision, and in the ability to advise a client when a choice will not serve the room.

Our technical designer brings a background in architectural draughting, with a specific interest in ceiling and trim work across the Straits colonial tradition. Together, the team covers concept, documentation, and procurement without the knowledge gaps that occur when these roles are filled by generalists.

Graduate Diploma, Interior Design

Universiti Teknologi MARA — principal designer's formal training in spatial design and material application.

Architectural Draughting Background

Technical designer trained in construction documentation — drawings prepared to a buildable standard, not a presentational one.

Heritage Property Experience

Years of work on pre-war bungalows and shophouses in KL, Penang, and Johor Bahru — spaces where classical knowledge is a practical necessity.

Our working process

01

Initial conversation

We listen to where you are in your project — no commitment required at this stage.

02

Scope agreed in writing

The engagement and its deliverables are confirmed before work begins. No ambiguity about what is included.

03

Design work with client feedback

Drafts are shared and revised through the included consultations before finalisation.

04

Handover and follow-on support

Final documents or sourced items are handed over with any care guidance needed. We remain available for questions.

Process

A clear process at every stage

Interior design projects can become confused when the scope is not clearly established at the outset. We address this by agreeing the scope in writing before work begins — stating exactly what will be delivered, in what timeframe, and at what cost.

Our packages are not open-ended retainers. They are defined engagements with clear deliverables. Clients know when a phase is complete, and any extension is agreed separately.

What Sets Us Apart

Distinctive features of working with Norova

The only studio in KL specialising in classical direction briefs

Most interior studios offer full-room design services. Norova's Concept Brief package is designed for clients who need a direction set before committing to full documentation — a service not commonly offered as a standalone.

Documentation written with the joiner, not just the client, in mind

Our technical documentation is structured for the people who build from it. Profile notes, timber species guidance, and finish call-outs are included because they affect the outcome of the work — not because they are standard practice.

Restoration as a first option, not a last resort

We work with restorers as a matter of course — not as a fallback when a new piece cannot be sourced. Clients with inherited or antique furniture are well served by a studio that treats restoration as a design decision rather than a compromise.

A materials care note included with documentation

The detailed documentation package includes a plain-language note on the care of traditional materials — timber joinery, fabric, lacquer — specific to the items specified. A small addition that has value for years after the project completes.
